Ashok Leyand shares climb 3% after strong Q3 earnings

(PTI) Shares of Ashok Leyand on Thursday ended 3 per cent higher after the firm reported a multi-fold jump in its profit after tax for the December quarter.

The stock ended at 152.05 apiece, up 2.95 per cent on the BSE. During the day, it climbed 5 per cent to 155.10.

On the NSE, it advanced 3 per cent to settle at 152.20 per share. During the day, it climbed 4.94 per cent to 155.

In volume terms, 9.36 lakh shares were traded on the BSE and over 3.34 crore shares on the NSE during the day.

In a volatile trade, the 30-share BSE benchmark ended 224.16 points or 0.38 per cent higher at 59,932.24.

On Wednesday, Hinduja group flagship Ashok Leyand reported a multi-fold jump in its profit after tax at 361 crore for the third quarter ended December, aided by robust sales.

The company had posted a profit after tax of 6 crore in the October-December quarter of previous fiscal.

Revenues for the quarter stood at 9,030 crore over 5,535 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a statement.

Ashok Leyland said its domestic Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicle volume rose to 28,221 units, up 69 per cent, over the same period last year.
