Indian equities remained under pressure for the third consecutive day on March 4 as investors sold off stocks across sectors amid heightened concerns over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

Sensex ended over a percent lower and five stocks in the 30-share kitty Sensex hit their 52-week lows in intraday trade.

The stocks that hit their 52-week lows were Dr Reddy's Labs, HDFC, HDFC Bank, Hindustan Unilever and Ultratech Cement.

Overall, 86 stocks hit their 52-week lows on BSE, including Berger Paints, Britannia Industries, Dalmia Bharat, Eicher Motors, Hero MotoCorp, Motherson Sumi Systems, SBI Cards and Payment Services and Star Cement.

However, 88 stocks, including Adani Transmission, CPSE, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation, Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilisers & Chemicals, Hindalco and Nalco, hi their 52-week highs.

Sensex ended the session with a loss of 769 points, or 1.40 percent, at 54,333.81. The market, however, ended after trimming some losses as at one point during the session, Sensex was down as much as 1,215 points.

Nifty closed the day at 16,245.35 with a loss of 253 points or 1.53 percent. BSE Midcap and smallcap indices closed 2.36 percent and 2.36 percent lower, respectively.
