Lately, a number of Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) subscribers realised that their provident fund interest for year 2021-22 was not credited.

In fact, a number of complaints were also filed with the EPFO regarding non-crediting of interest rate of 8.1 per cent for 2021-22. In response to this, they were told that there was some issue with the software and it would be resolved soon.

“I raised the issue of non-crediting of interest rate of 8.1 per cent for 2021-22 with the EPFO officials. They told me that there is some issue with the system (software) and it would be resolved soon,” Harbhajan Singh Sidhu, Hind Mazdoor Sabha's General Secretary told Press Trust of India (PTI).

A number of EPF subscribers are reportedly indignant about this since the interest rate was decided in March and ratified in June last year, said Sidhu who is also an EPFO trustee.

However, in case one wants to check whether the interest has been credited on a passbook, you can visit your provident fund account and check the balance.

This can be done on a passbook on the EPFO’s official website. The passbook contains details of your provident fund (PF) balance.

Steps to follow to check the provident fund balance:

1. First you need to visit epfindia.gov.in, and click on ‘services’ at the top of the dashboard.

2. Here, click on the second category from drop-down menu that says ‘For Employees;’.

3. This will take you to a new page. Here you should select ‘member passbook’ under the ‘services.’

4. Now, the system will prompt you to enter your account details which include Universal Account Number (UAN), password, and the captcha code. Once you enter all the details, you have to click on ‘Login.’

5. Following this, you will be taken to your account of EPF India. Then you can access all the details regarding your account.

6. If you want a print out of the passbook, you can click ‘Download Passbook.’ Once it is downloaded, you can take a print out of the PDF file.

The EPFO in March 2022 announced to cut down the interest on provident fund deposits for 2021-22 to 8.1 per cent from 8.5 per cent the year before.
