The Income Tax Department introduced a mobile application called “AIS for Taxpayers” in March this year. The app was designed to provide taxpayers with easy access to their information as presented in the Annual Information Statement (AIS)/Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS).
The primary objective of the app is to offer taxpayers a comprehensive overview of their AIS/TIS details. It accomplishes this by presenting information gathered from multiple sources relevant to every individual taxpayer.
Benefits of using the “AIS for Taxpayers” app
Instead of constantly shuffling between tabs to view AIS details, taxpayers can use the mobile app to access various details pertaining to TDS/TCS, interest, dividends, share transactions, tax payments, Income Tax refunds, as well as other relevant information like GST data, foreign remittances, and more, all available within the AIS/TIS. Additionally, the AIS app offers users the option to provide feedback on the displayed information, ensuring a channel for communication and improvements.
How to access the “AIS for Taxpayers” app?
To use the mobile app, taxpayers are required to register by providing their Permanent Account Number (PAN) and then undergo an authentication process using the one-time password (OTP) sent to their registered mobile number and e-mail associated with the e-filing portal. Once successfully authenticated, the taxpayer can easily set a 4-digit PIN, which will serve as their access code to the mobile app.
The AIS app is available as a free download on both the Google Play Store and the App Store. It serves as a valuable tool for taxpayers, enabling them to easily monitor their tax-related details. Moreover, the app offers a user-friendly means to provide feedback on the information presented in their AIS. Apart, taxpayers can conveniently download their AIS in PDF format through the app.
However, there are certain limitations to using this app. For example, you can only view the yearly income details but does not allow you to file your income tax return. The app lacks the capability to edit your AIS information and does not offer access to all the information available on the AIS web portal.
Those who are filing their ITRs for the first time can download the app on their mobile phone to check out their income details, thus, lending them the much-needed idea of the tax amount due and how many deductions and exemptions they can claim on the income earned during the year.
