Income Tax department launches app to allow taxpayers to view details on AIS; All you need to know

The Income Tax (I-T) department recently launched a mobile app — ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ to enable taxpayers to view their information available in the Annual Information Statement (AIS)

‘AIS for Taxpayer’ is a mobile application launched by the Income Tax Department, and is available on Google Play & App Store.

The app is aimed to provide a comprehensive view of the AIS/TIS to the taxpayer which displays the information collected from various sources pertaining to the taxpayer.

Taxpayers can use the mobile app to view their information related to TDS/TCS, interest, dividends, share transactions, tax payments, Income Tax refunds, Other Information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances) as available in AIS/TIS.

Once can also provide feedback on the information displayed in the app.

What is AIS?

Annual information system (AIS) is comprehensive view of information for a taxpayer displayed in Form 26AS. Taxpayers are free to give feedback on information displayed in AIS.

The system shows both reported value as well as modified value i.e., value after considering taxpayer feedback under each section.

The purpose of AIS is to display complete information to the taxpayer, enabling voluntary compliance and enable seamless prefilling of income tax return.

Now one might wonder whether AIS is extension of form 26AS. In fact, AIS is the extension of form 26AS. It displays details of property purchases, high-value investments and TDS/TCS transactions carried.

How to access the app?

To access this mobile app, the taxpayer needs to register on the app by providing PAN number. Following this, one needs to authenticate with the OTP (one time password) sent on mobile number and e-mail that is registered with the e-filing portal.

Once the authentication is complete, the taxpayer can set a four-digit PIN to be able to access the mobile app. Income Tax (I-T) department is calling this an initiative to facilitate ease of compliance.
