These hybrid mutual funds gave up to 26 percent return in past three years

To evaluate the overall performance of a mutual fund, it is pertinent to know, among other things, the returns given by the scheme. We take a look at aggressive hybrid mutual funds to assess the returns posted by them in the short and medium term i.e., in past one and three years, respectively.

While some mutual funds gave muted returns, some of the fund schemes posted exceptionally good returns during this time period.

One-year returns

In the past one-year, ICICI Prudential Equity and Debt Fund gave 21.04 percent return, Edelweiss Aggressive Hybrid Fund gave 11.82 percent return and Quant Absolute Fund gave 15.17 percent return, as per AMFI (Association of Mutual Funds in India) data as on May 31, 2022.

There were some funds that gave muted returns. L&T Hybrid Equity Fund gave 2.93 percent return, Motilal Oswal Equity Hybrid Fund gave 3.03 percent, PGIM India Hybrid Equity Fund gave -0.03 percent return.

Three-year returns

The three-year returns of top-performing aggressive hybrid mutual funds were as high as 26 percent. Quant Absolute Fund posted 26.02 percent return as on May 31, 2022, ICICI Prudential Equity and Debt Fund gave 18.11 percent return, Kotak Equity Hybrid Fund gave 16.16 percent return and Bank of India Mid & Small Cap Equity & Debt Fund gave 18.71 percent return, according to AMFI data.

We give a snapshot of some aggressive hybrid mutual funds:

 

Quant Absolute Fund: The fund scheme was launched in March 2001. The return since the inception has been 19.58 percent. This implies an investment of one lakh would have now grown to 42,73,950.

The top 10 holdings in the fund as on March 31, 2022 were Vedanta, ITC, SBI, Linde India, L&T, Fortis, Adani Ports, Ruchi Soya, Adani Enterprises and IRB Infra.

ICICI Prudential Equity and Debt Fund: This is an old fund scheme that started in November 1999. In past 22 years and seven months of operation, the scheme has given a return of 14.34 percent.

This implies an investment of 1 lakh made 22 years ago would have now grown to 20.62 lakh.

The top stock holding in the scheme are NTPC, ICICI Bank, Bharti Airtel, ONGC, Infosys, Hindalco Industries, Tata Motors and government securities.
