Multi cap funds gave handsome returns in the past three years

Evaluating the past few years’ returns of fund schemes, albeit not mandatory, is highly recommended, before you invest into it. Here we give a snapshot of returns given by some of the top performing multi-cap funds in the past one and three years.

But before we proceed, let us first deconstruct the concept of multi cap funds. These are, in fact, the mutual funds which are mandated to invest their assets across the market capitalisation spectrum i.e., large cap, mid cap and small caps.

Some of the multi-cap funds posted returns in high-double digits i.e., more than 20 percent per annum for the past three years, according to the AMFI data on May 25, 2022.

For instance, Quant Active Fund gave a return of 28.92 per cent and Mahindra Manulife Multi Cap Badhat Yojana gave a return of 21.08 percent.

At the same time, three-year return of Invesco India Multicap Fund was 15.48 percent and Baroda BNP Paribas Multi Cap Fund was 15.99 percent, as per the AMFI data.

The highest one-year return (as per AMFI data on May 25, 2022) was given by Nippon India multi cap fund of 15.68 percent. For others, such as Quant Active and Mahindra Manulife, the returns were 11.14 percent and 11.17 percent, respectively.

We give a lowdown on some of the top performing funds:

 

Quant Active Fund: This fund has given a CAGR of 18.84 percent since its launch in March 2001. This means 1,00,000 invested at the time of launch would have grown to 37,51,591 in 21 years.

In the past three year alone, one lakh would have grown to 2.09 lakh, according to Value Research data. The top holdings of this fund scheme are Vedanta, ITC, SBI, Adani Ports, Ruchi Soya Industries, Linde India, L&T, Adani Enterprises, among others.

The assets under management (AUMs) of this scheme are 2,300 crore, and the expense ratio is 2.63 percent.

Mahindra Manulife Multi Cap Badhat Yojana: The fund launched in May 2017 has given a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 17.7 percent. In the past five years, an investment of 1 lakh would have grown to 2,25,882.

This product is suitable for investors who are seeking medium to long term capital appreciation and investment predominantly in equity and equity related securities including derivative.

The top holdings of this fund scheme are SBI, ICICI Bank, ITC, RIL, Infosys, Axis Bank, Canara Bank, Zee Entertainment and LIC Housing finance, among others.
