The Employees' Provident Fund Organization has instructed employers to verify their employees' EPF Aadhaar details.

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) new rules direct employers to verify their employees’ provident fund (PF) Aadhaar details. The new rule was put into effect on June 01, 2021, as reported on Zee Business. Any discrepancy on the employer’s part will result in the stoppage of employer contribution credited to their employees’ PF accounts. Employers must link their employees’ PF accounts with Aadhaar in time while ensuring that the Universal Account Number (UAN) allotted by the EPFO is also Aadhaar verified.

What do the new rules say?

The EPFO had taken the decision under Section 142 of the Social Security Code 2020. The PF organization has laid down clear instructions regarding employees’ accounts linking with Aadhaar stating how their ECR-Electronic Challan cum Returns will not be filled on non-fulfilment of this condition. This means that if the accounts of the PF account holders are not linked with Aadhaar, then they will not be able to use the services of the EPFO.

How to link PF with Aadhaar?

Linking one’s EPF account with Aadhaar is easy and involves following some simple steps.

Step 1: Go to the official EPFO website by clicking on the link- www.epfindia.gov.in and log in.

Step 2: Click on Online Services - e-KYC Portal - link UAN Aadhar.

Step 3: Upload your UAN number and mobile number registered with your UAN account.

Step 4: You will get a one-time password (OTP) number on your mobile number. Enter the OTP number in the OTP box, enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and submit the form. Then click on the Proposed to OTP verification option.

Step 5: Generate OTP on the mobile number or mail linked with your Aadhaar to verify your Aadhaar details. After verification, your Aadhaar will be linked to your PF account.
