Be aware of these things before you invest in an NFO

Investing in NFOs involves investing in new mutual funds with no historical data or track record to rely on.

Consider what is unique about the NFO that was not already available earlier via existing schemes. 

Evaluate existing portfolio of mutual funds and see how the new fund (if invested in) will fit into portfolio. 


Don’t invest in NFOs just because of attractive starting NAV of Rupees 10.

Investing in NFOs should only be done if there is a gap in mutual fund portfolio that is only being filled by the new fund. 

Don’t be blinded by the marketing of AMCs and distributors/agents.

Keep a bulk of money in established and proven schemes. 

Avoid unnecessary diversification which will lead to portfolio overlap. 

NFOs should be considered after considering its uniqueness and how it fits in the existing portfolio.
