It is a multi-faceted social security scheme to provide socio-economic security to employees in the organised sector.

It provides medical treatment, monetary benefits and dependant benefits for loss of income or disability due to occupational diseases or injuries.

 Daily wage workers in manufacturing, transportation, and construction are eligible for the scheme.

Employers of non-seasonal enterprises with 10 or more employees have a responsibility to register workers in the ESIC scheme.

Employees have to contribute 0.75 percent of their monthly wages and employers must contribute 3.25 percent of the employee's salary.

 If a worker is temporarily disabled, they are entitled to a 90 percent monthly income while they recuperate.

Member's benefits are unaffected by changing jobs and their insurance number will stay the same.
