Key highlights from FM Sitharaman's Budget speech

The Union Budget 2023-24 was presented in the Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman with a focus on growth, infrastructure, green energy, and railways.

It provides relief to the middle class with exemptions up to 7 lakh and tweaks to the new tax regime.

Senior Citizens' Saving Scheme (SCSS) has been enhanced from 15 lakh to 30 lakh and the interest rate is fixed at 8%.

FM Sitharaman announced a one-time small savings scheme ‘Mahila Samman Saving Certificate’, with an interest rate of 7.5 per cent per annum.


Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana outlay has been increased by 66 percent to over 79,000 crore.


Credit guarantee scheme for MSMEs with effect from April 1, 2021 with an infusion of around  9,000 crore into the corpus.

The centre has allocated 2.4 trillion for Indian Railways and 10 lakh crore for infrastructure development.
