Tax department’s helpdesk is functioning round-the-clock, and it is providing support through calls, live chats, and social media.

Thanks to the series of awareness campaigns and also perhaps a result of not extending the last date of filing income tax return (ITR) – a whooping 60 million returns have already been filed.

This data was shared by the Income Tax Department on Twitter where it announced that over 6 crore ITRs were filed, out of which, about 26.76 lakh ITRs were filed on Sunday till 6:30 pm.

“We have witnessed more than 1.30 crore successful logins on the e-filing portal till 6.30 pm, today,” tweeted the tax department.

"To assist taxpayers for ITR filing, tax payment and other related services, our helpdesk is functioning on 24x7 basis, and we are providing support through calls, live chats, WebEx sessions & social media.

We extend our gratitude to taxpayers and tax professionals for helping us reach this milestone, and urge all those who haven’t filed ITR for AY 2023-24, to file their ITR at the earliest to avoid last minute rush," it said.

Snags galore

Thanks to the massive surge, a number of tax filers faced a blank screen when they tried to open the income tax portal.

A number of tax filers shared not-so-pleasant experience of logging on to the tax portal. Upon opening the portal, the message of ‘service unavailable’ was flashing on their screens.

On most of such grievances, tax department shared this advice on its official handle: “Please retry after clearing the browser cache. If you still face any issues, share details (PAN & Mobile) at orm@cpc.incometax.gov.in. Our team will get in touch with you.”
