Missed filing a belated income tax return? ITR-U is your last chance

ITR-U is the last option for taxpayers to file belated income tax returns. 


 The updated return can be filed after the end of the assessment year up to 24 months.

Updated return can be filed on form ITR-U and must state a reason.

Penalty for late filing of return is paid under section 234F of the Income Tax Act.


Penalty varies from 5,000 - 10,000 depending on total income.


An updated return can also be filed when there is no tax to be paid.

Updated return can be filed for financial year 2021-22 after the relevant assessment year comes to an end.
