Getting a job offer from a company outside your country does not always mean a good deal.

Many of us desire to work overseas with the primary reason being high-paying jobs in these countries. However, getting a job offer from a company outside your country does not always mean a good deal. Yes, you heard that right. The expenses in some countries can make your earnings shrink to an extent that you'll realise it defeats the very purpose of moving to another nation to earn more. Besides, there are various other factors, apart from salary, that one needs to consider before accepting an offer because if they are not in place, you'd be better off working in your home country. Here are some of the factors one needs to consider before moving to another country for work:

Living expenses

First and foremost, check the cost of living of the country. Your pay package might seem much more appealing than Indian standards but the cost of living of a country can make a lot of difference in how much you eventually have for yourself. While calculating, include essential items like the average rent, groceries, utilities, public transport, etc.

Legal formalities

While an employer helps the employee in the process, there are a number of documents that you will have to prepare and produce for visa. It's also extremely important to know your limitations and rights under your visa type. Check if there is any condition that restricts you from changing jobs for a given period of time and if you are required to leave the country immediately in case the employer terminates your contract or there is any window given for you to look for a job.

Work culture

Check if working hours and holiday allowance are in line with what you are up for. While in some countries, a standard working week could be 40 hours long, in others, more than that or less. Besides, some countries have laws enforcing over 20 minimum paid leaves and the others may just have 10. Carefully check whether the working conditions meet your expectations and take a call.

Health insurance

Medical bills can be extremely heavy on your pocket if it is a country more expensive than India. Carefully check if your employer offers you a health insurance and if yes, is it adequate enough?

Taxes

Tax laws may vary from country to country. Before signing the offer letter, thoroughly check and analyse the tax implications on your salary to know whether moving to that country will serve the purpose for you.

Culture shock

Trying to fit in with an unfamiliar culture can be extremely overwhelming and have you regretting taking up the job you were most excited about. In the end, if it doesn't feel worth it, it's not.
