As a large number of people are making a beeline for banks to exchange ₹2,000 notes, the rush at bank branches is understandably high across the country.
Although the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) governor Shaktikanta Das has assured that the currency can be exchanged without any hassles at any bank branch; what, however, is set to play a spoilsport is the long list of holidays in the forthcoming month.
The June of 2023 marks the beginning of a long series of upcoming bank holidays in India.
Private and public sector banks will remain closed to the public for 12 days in June 2023. It is important to note that regional holidays will vary state by state.
In India, there are two categories of bank holidays that are mainly divided into two categories i.e, government holidays and national holidays.
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar,banks will be closed on the occasions of Y.M.A. Day/Raja Sankranti, Kang (Rathajatra)/Ratha Yatra, Kharchi Puja, Bakri Eid (Eid-Ul-Zuha) and Remna Ni/Id-Ul-Zuha.

Apart from these holidays, bank branches including public sector, private sector, cooperative banks, regional banks and foreign banks will also remain shuton Saturdays (second and fourth) and Sundays.
In case you are planning to exchange your Rs. 2000 notes, make sure to check the list of bank holidays in your state before heading to the branch.
During this time, you can access internet banking and ATMs, however, customers will not be able to withdraw or deposit cash from their banks.
